  The British government has said its refusal to shut down Radio Biafra, an arm of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), is not deliberate, but that it has not received any request to that effect. The United Kingdom said there was no request from the Nigerian government to have the radio shut down. The denial was made by the British high commission, in a statement by its press and public affairs officer, Joe Abuku. The short statement said: “The UK is not aware of any representation from the Nigerian government about Radio Biafra. “Were we to receive any such request, we would of course consider it carefully on the basis of the available evidence, recognising that freedom of speech and expression carries responsibilities.” The statement could be a reply to Lai Mohammed, the Nigerian information minister, who was quoted as saying the British government had continued to allow the radio despite the damage done by Kanu and IPOB. According to new research, workers older than 40 perform at their best when they work three days a week. A new study has found that cognitive performance of people over 40 increased as the week progressed up to 25 hours a week, and workers’ performed their best at this peak. The research, which was published in Australia’s Hilda Report, with data taken from the Household, Income and Labour Dynamics in Australia report, revealed that cognitive function began to decline after 25 hours and that middle-aged persons who worked 55 hours revealed results that were worse than those that are unemployed or retired. One of the authors of the study, Professor Colin McKenzie from Keio University, explained that long working hours cause fatigue and stress, which have a significant effect on cognitive function. “The degree of intellectual stimulation may depend on working hours. Razak applied to study Medicine and Surgery at the University of Ilorin in the Post-UTME screening before the unfortunate incident.
